QUETTA: The Balochistan cabinet on Tuesday approved the appointment of three vice-chancellors of public universities in the province. The universities include Balochistan University of Medical and Health Sciences (BUHMS), Balochistan University of Engineering and Technology Khuzdar and Loralai University.
Professor Shabir Lehri recommended for VC BUHMS
A well-placed source in the Balochistan government disclosed to the Daily Quetta Voice that Professor Shabir Lehri has been recommended for the appointment of VC BUHMS, Dr. Ehsanullah Kakar as VC Loralai University, and Dr. Maqsood Ahmed was recommended for the Khuzdar University.
The cabinet referred the appointment issue of VC Balochistan University of Information Technology Engineering and Management Sciences (BUITEMS) to the parliamentary committee. Although, the search committee recommended the name of Dr. Khalid Hafeez for the position and professor Dr. Masoom Yaseenzai was second on the merit list. The majority of the lawmakers present in the cabinet meeting decided to refer the issue to the parliamentary committee.
Search committee asked to conduct interviews for VCs of Chakar and Mekran universities
The cabinet also decided to re-advertise VCs Chakar Rind University Sibi and Mekran University and empowered the search committee to conduct interviews.
There was no word by the cabinet members about the fate of VC’s positions at the Sardar Bahadur Khan Women’s University, Lasbela and University of Balochistan.
As per the Balochistan Universities Model Act 2022, the Balochistan Higher Education and Colleges Department would send the summary of the above mentioned names to the Chancellor/ Governor Balochistan for final approval.
