The Balochistan Chief Minister, Mir Abdul Quddus Bizenjo approved the appointment of members for the Balochistan Health Care Commission. The Chief Minister gave this approval on a summary sent by the Health Department.

Health Care Commission Act 2019 was passed to “provide for the provision of establishment of Balochistan Health Care Commission, to improve the quality of health care services, clinical governance and prohibition of grants related to the field of medicine”.

Commission to regulate public healthcare services

The purpose of the establishment is to regulate the provision of private and public healthcare services. Under the provisions of the Act, the Commission can exercise the power conferred on the Civil Court under the Code of Civil Procedure, 1908 Act to ensure quality control.

According to Section-5 of the Commission, the Commission consists of nine (09) members. Seven (07) of these members are to be nominated on the recommendations of the Search Committee (a panel of two for each post) Out of the remaining two (02) members one (01) shall be a retired Judge of the High Court and the other shall be a financial expert Section 5 (3):

” No person shall be eligible to be nominated as a member unless he has had at least twenty years of experience. At least three of the total members shall be from the Health Sector and one member shall be from the Federal/Provincial Administrative Services preferably from the Health Sector and shall not be an officer below Grade 20, a well-placed source within the health department concluded.
