Syed Ali Shah:
After more than one year of delay, finally, the Balochistan government launched the much-awaited green bus service in Quetta on Monday. Initially, eight buses would be on a specified route from the Balochistan University to Beleli customs airport road.
“We would increase the number of buses with the passage of time”, Dr. Faisal Ahmed Khan, the Chief Executive of Balochistan Public Private Partnership Authority (BPPA) said. He said the buses are being operated through the BPPA to make it a success and ensure better and decent transportation for the citizens of Quetta.
Grees bus project was envisioned by Jam Kamal Khan
The launching of the green bus service was envisioned by the former chief minister of Balochistan, Jam Kamal Khan during the budget for the financial year 2020-21. However, its implementation was delayed following the vote of confidence against the latter and then the election of Mir Quddus Bizenjo as the Chief Minister of the province.
The buses are well-equipped and air-conditioned with a special allocation of spaces and chairs for the disabled and women. “The buses would carry over 10,000 passengers every day”, Mr. Khan informed. He said after every 15 minutes the buses would pick up passengers from specified points in Quetta city.
The government determines to provide decent transportation to masses: CS Balochistan
The inaugural session of the launching of the green bus service was held at the Balochistan University of Information Technology Engineering and Management Sciences (BUITEMS). Chief Secretary Balochistan and other high-ups were present on the eve of the launching of the project.
“Government is determined to address the transportation issue of citizens”, the CS Balochistan said. The members of the assembly and the CS Balochistan also traveled in the buses on the premises of the BUITEMS.
This is the first ever decent transportation facility for the masses of Quetta and Balochistan. The project has been hailed by people belonging to all walks of life.
