QUETTA: Chief Secretary Balochistan, Shakeel Qadir Khan chaired an important meeting of the provincial task force on Friday. The meeting reviewed arrangements for the upcoming anti-polio campaign in Balochistan on October 2nd.

Chief of the Emergency Operation Cell (EOC), Syed Zahid Shah briefed the meeting about the preparations for the anti-polio campaign in the province. Commissioner Quetta Division, Hamza Shafqaat and other high-ups were also present on the occasion.

The provincial task force thoroughly discussed security arrangements and other administrative issues relating to the anti-polio campaign in Balochistan. Addressing the meeting, Chief Secretary Balochistan, Qadir Shakeel Khan directed the officials to boost coordination among departments to make the campaign a success. “The government is determined to eradicate the poliovirus from Balochistan and the country”, Shakeel Qadir Khan said.

Syed Zahid Shah, the head of the EOC said the polio volunteers were making tooth and nail efforts to make sure the provision of anti-polio drops to children under the age of five years in Balochistan. “We are trying hard to reduce the number of chronic refusals”, Mr. Shah stated.

The provincial health department has formed thousands of teams across Balochistan to eradicate the crippling virus. Balochistan has been polio-free for the last couple of years. Poliovirus in other parts of the country and Afghanistan is still posing a threat to children here.

The meeting decided to give a special focus to the Quetta block comprising the Chaman, Killa Abdullah and Pishin districts of Balochistan.
