Quetta: Another patient has succumbed to the Congo virus in Balochistan, raising the death toll from the disease this year to nine.
According to sources at the Fatima Jinnah Institute of Chest Diseases (FJICD) Quetta, 16-year-old Khan Muhammad, a resident of Quetta, was admitted to the hospital’s isolation ward on suspicion of having Congo fever.
His blood samples were sent for testing, but he passed away early Sunday morning during treatment. The test results later confirmed he had the Congo virus.
Hospital sources reported that since January, around 60 patients have been brought to FJICD, with 34 confirmed cases of the Congo virus.
The remaining 23 patients tested negative and were referred to other hospitals. The rising number of cases highlights the ongoing health challenges in the region and the need for increased vigilance and preventive measures.
