Loralai: Mahmood Khan Achakzai, Chairman of the Pashtunkhwa Milli Awami Party (PMAP) and leader of the opposition alliance “Tehreek-e-Tahafuz-e-Aain Pakistan,” inaugurated a two-day Public Peace Jirga in Loralai. Presided over by Nawab Ayaz Khan Jogezai, with Abdul Rahim Ziaratwal as the event host, this Jirga gathers local leaders to address the growing security challenges in the region.
In his opening remarks, Achakzai condemned the recurring incidents of terrorism, which have claimed the lives of innocent citizens, especially within the Pashtun community. He raised concerns over the impact of increased security measures on political and civil freedoms, often restricting these liberties in the wake of terrorist attacks.
Achakzai emphasized unity as the path forward for the Pashtuns, stressing the importance of traditional councils like jirgas in developing effective strategies. He expressed alarm over security risks in areas like coal mines, where workers face violence and extortion. Achakzai also highlighted the recent Quetta Railway Station bombing, urging stronger protective measures for civilians.
Reflecting on Pakistan’s broader political challenges, he emphasized the value of public jirgas as a platform for community voices and accountability. Achakzai reiterated that Pashtuns seek peaceful relations and are focused on achieving autonomy and securing rights to their resource-rich homeland.
In closing, Achakzai announced plans for similar jirgas in Zhob and Quetta, aimed at building unity across the Pashtun community.
