Worst traffic jam at Belili chowk against the alleged kidnapping of a child in Quetta: Photo taken from social media

Staff Reporter:

QUETTA: The Quetta-Baleli highway has been blocked for over five hours by outraged traders, political parties, and tribesmen protesting the alleged abduction of a child from a local school. The protest has caused severe traffic disruptions, leaving hundreds of passengers, including women, children, and the elderly, stranded in freezing conditions.

Demonstrators have also blocked the main boulevard in Quetta’s red zone, vowing to continue their sit-in until the child is safely recovered. The protest has paralyzed the provincial capital, with major roads gridlocked and commuters facing significant delays.

A large police contingent has been deployed to manage the situation, with senior officials engaging in negotiations to convince the protesters to reopen the highway and other blocked routes. Despite their efforts, the demonstrators remain firm in their demand for immediate action and the child’s recovery.

Meanwhile, police have yet to confirm details about the alleged abduction, and no official statement has been issued. The incident has sparked widespread concern, highlighting the need for enhanced security measures around schools in Quetta.

As the protest continues, authorities are urging calm and promising swift action to address the situation. Travelers are advised to avoid the affected areas until further notice.
