The Balochistan government has allocated Rs. 1.5 billion on the construction of boundary walls and provision of other basic facilities to 158 shelterless schools across the province in the budget for the financial year 2020-21. The number of shelterless schools across Balochistan is stated to be in thousands as per the education department’s data located in almost all districts of the province.

This information was given by finance minister Balochistan, Zahoor Buledi while addressing a post-budget briefing on Sunday. Secretary Finance  Balochistan, Noor ul Haq Baloch and Special Secretary Finance Lal Jan Jaffar were also present during the budget briefing.

Mr. Buledi informed that the government has decided to upgrade 53 primary schools to the middle level and 53 middle schools would be upgraded to a high level to make sure the provision of education to students at their door-step. Apart from this 47 girls primary schools already established under the global partnership would be upgraded to middle level and 18 middle schools would be upgraded to a high level.

Mr. Buledi mentioned that under the present government’s education vision, revolutionary steps were being adopted to provide computers, smart boards, library books, science equipment and other necessary equipment to 100 high schools in the province. “These would be exemplary schools to impart quality education to students”, the finance minister added.

The government has also allocated Rs. 200 million for education performance system to check ghost schools and ghost teachers across the province. Substantial funds have also been allocated to provide digital libraries in schools located in 16 districts of Balochistan, Mr. Buledi stated. The government has overall allocated more than Rs. 70 billion for the education sector in the budget for the financial year 2020-21.
