QUETTA: The Balochistan Assembly strongly condemned the kidnapping of a 17-year-old girl from the Sany area of Khuzdar, calling for immediate action to secure her safe recovery.
Prince Omar Ahmedzai, a treasury bench lawmaker, announced the convening of a tribal Jirga to address the issue. “It is my responsibility and the duty of every tribal elder to ensure the girl’s recovery,” he declared.
Protests Continue on Quetta-Karachi Highway
Dr. Abdul Malik Baloch, former Balochistan chief minister, raised concerns over the government’s inaction, pointing out that for the past two days, women and children have been blocking the Quetta-Karachi Highway in protest. “The government has failed to protect citizens. This is why highway blockades have become a routine,” he said, demanding the girl’s immediate recovery.
Government Vows Action
Balochistan Irrigation Minister Mir Muhammad Sadiq Umrani (PPP) assured the assembly that the government was committed to recovering the girl. He stated that Chief Minister Mir Sarfaraz Bugti would be consulted after the session to expedite efforts. “This is a matter of serious concern, especially in our tribal society,” he admitted.
Political Criticism
Maulana Hidayat ur Rehman, chief of Jamaat-e-Islami Balochistan, criticized the provincial government for its failure to protect citizens, demanding swift action.
With mounting pressure from lawmakers, tribal elders, and protesters, authorities are being urged to take immediate steps to recover the girl.
