A severe fuel shortage has struck various parts of Balochistan, leaving residents in long, desperate queues at petrol stations. Cities including Quetta, Turbat, Gwadar, and Panjgur are witnessing growing frustration as fuel pumps either shut down or ration limited supplies.
The crisis comes amid escalating tensions in the Middle East, with recent Israeli airstrikes on Iran reportedly impacting regional oil supply routes. While no official statement has confirmed the exact cause of the shortage, locals believe the geopolitical unrest has disrupted the usual flow of Iranian fuel into southwestern Pakistan.
Governments Contradicts Reports Of Fuel Shortage
However, Shahid Rind, spokesperson for the Government of Balochistan, contradicted such reports. He claimed that no official disruption in fuel supply had been recorded and alleged that fuel smugglers were spreading false information to create panic and pave the way for their illegal trade. “The government will strictly monitor the petrol stock at all fuel stations,” Rind stated, adding, “Action will be taken against pump owners who are hoarding fuel or not selling at all.”
Despite the government’s denial, scenes across Balochistan painted a different picture. Residents are taking to social media and messaging platforms to raise the alarm. “We’ve been waiting for hours — not a single drop,” said one motorcyclist outside a closed pump in Quetta. “My work depends on fuel. This crisis is hitting daily life hard.”
Fuel vendors are offering vague timelines for restocking. In many areas, black market prices have surged, putting an extra burden on working-class citizens.
Local journalists and citizens are actively sending updates, photos, and videos from ground zero, calling on authorities for immediate intervention.
As the situation worsens, people are turning to alternative means, with some pushing bikes home and others pooling rides. The provincial government has yet to release a formal operational plan to ensure steady distribution.
