ISLAMABAD – An earthquake measuring 4.4 on the Richter scale struck southeastern Balochistan late Monday night, shaking areas near Kalat and surrounding regions, according to the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD), Islamabad.
The tremor originated at 22:31 PST, with a depth of 40 kilometers. The epicenter was located at 28.88°N latitude and 67.09°E longitude, approximately 43 kilometers southeast of Kalat, a region prone to seismic activity due to its location near tectonic plate boundaries.
So far, no casualties or major property damage have been reported. However, light tremors were felt in nearby towns and villages, causing momentary panic among residents who rushed out of their homes.
Authorities have urged the public to remain calm but vigilant, as aftershocks are possible. Emergency services and local administration are monitoring the situation closely.
