The Balochistan government has decided to impose a ban on turning residential areas into commercial ones in Quetta, the provincial capital. This decision was made in a high-level meeting chaired by the Chief Minister, Jam Kamal Khan on Monday.

The meeting expressed serious concern over the establishment of commercial plazas and malls in residential areas of the city. Laws of Quetta Development Authority (QDA) and Quetta Metropolitan Corporation (QMC) would be amended and that none would be allowed to launch any commercial activity without non-objection certification (NOC) from the two departments.

The meeting also decided to impose a ban on construction activities over new roads under Quetta Package in various parts of the city and commissioner Quetta was directed to ensure implementation of government’s orders. In this regard, a committee led by secretary local government was formed to conduct land zoning and specify locations for construction on the new roads.

The meeting decided to take action against buildings constructed in violation of the building code and concerned quarters were directed to take action against those violating the code. Chief Minister Balcohistan expressed displeasure over delay in preparation of Quetta master plan and observed that delaying tactics would impact the fruits of development on the common man in the city.

The meeting thoroughly discussed Quetta master development plan and master planning in the other 30 towns of Balochistan and made important decisions.
