Quetta– Authorities in Balochistan have sounded the alarm over potential flooding in Jaffarabad, Usta Muhammad, and Sohbatpur districts as water levels continue to rise in the Indus River.
Provincial Irrigation Minister Sadiq Umrani told reporters that if river levels swell further, floodwaters could enter parts of Balochistan on September 2 and 3, threatening low-lying areas including Jaffarabad, Rojhan, Usta Muhammad, and Sohbatpur.
Umrani stressed that the provincial government is in close coordination with the Sindh government and is closely monitoring the situation. To mitigate risks, the irrigation department has established 16 flood control centers across vulnerable locations and deployed machinery and staff.
Meanwhile, Director General of PDMA, Jahanzeb Khan, confirmed that a camp office has been set up in Nasirabad to oversee operations and provide real-time monitoring. He added that safe sites have already been identified in the three border districts where residents can be relocated if necessary.
Officials have urged citizens in flood-prone areas to remain vigilant and cooperate with authorities to ensure the protection of lives and property.
