Islamabad, September 13 – The approval of Balochistan’s first-ever Transgender Policy has been praised as a groundbreaking move toward social inclusion and equal rights. Uzma Yaqoob, Head of the Forum for Dignity Initiatives (FDI) Pakistan, described the decision of Chief Minister Sarfraz Bugti and his cabinet as historic, noting that it will create long-term opportunities for marginalized communities across the province.
Yaqoob emphasized that the new policy will enable transgender individuals to access education, employment, and social development programs, helping them play a more active role in society. She highlighted that civil society had long called for such a framework, while also pointing to earlier government initiatives such as scholarships for minorities and transgender persons as signs of commitment to inclusive governance.
Calling it a precedent for other provinces, Yaqoob urged effective implementation to ensure the benefits reach deserving groups. She further assured that FDI Pakistan will actively support the provincial government in carrying the policy forward.
