QuettaCommissioner Quetta Division Shahzeb Khan Kakar held a meeting with renowned andrologist and water resource advisor Dr. Andreas de Jong. The meeting focused on a detailed discussion regarding regional water resources, groundwater management, and the sustainable use of water.

Dr. Andreas de Jong shared his technical insights on Quetta’s water scarcity, the rapidly declining groundwater table, and the potential challenges the city may face in the future. Citing global models and scientific research, he identified measures that could significantly improve Quetta’s water situation, including smart water management, enhanced recharge systems, and disciplined water usage practices.

Commissioner Shahzeb Khan Kakar briefed Dr. de Jong on ongoing initiatives related to water resource management in the city, the Urban Water Security Policy, and the district administration’s priorities. He stressed that scientific policymaking is essential to tackling the water crisis, and that consultation with international experts can play a crucial role in shaping effective strategies.

Both sides agreed on exploring potential joint projects, technical cooperation, upcoming workshops, and the development of a comprehensive water reform plan for the region. Appreciating Dr. de Jong’s recommendations, Commissioner Quetta assured that the district administration will take all necessary measures to protect and efficiently manage water resources.
