ECP Rejects Bugti’s Plea, Quetta LG Polls to Proceed on Dec 28

News Desk: Political uncertainty has intensified in Balochistan as several political parties have filed a petition in the Balochistan High Court seeking the postponement of upcoming local government elections.

The petition, submitted by Younis Baloch along with other political leaders, maintains that extreme weather conditions across the province and serious discrepancies in voter lists are major hurdles to conducting free, fair, and timely elections. The petitioners argue that proceeding with elections under the current circumstances could adversely impact law and order and erode public trust in the electoral process.

Leaders from major political parties, including the Balochistan Awami Party (BAP), Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP), Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N), Awami National Party (ANP), and Pakhtunkhwa National Party, have signed the petition and collectively presented their concerns before the court.

Sources say that Younis Baloch had earlier opposed the Balochistan government’s request before the Election Commission to defer the elections. However, the issue has now been taken to the High Court for a judicial ruling.

Political analysts believe this development has further heightened the political atmosphere in the province. They say the court’s decision could significantly influence the election schedule and shape the government’s broader electoral strategy.

The petitioners have urged authorities to thoroughly assess all legal, administrative, security, and weather-related challenges before holding the local government elections to ensure transparency, stability, and public confidence in Balochistan.
