News Desk: Pakistan is set to supply conventional arms and military equipment to Libya under a landmark, multi-billion-dollar defence export agreement, marking a major milestone in the country’s growing defence industry and export-led economic strategy.

The deal reflects Pakistan’s push toward a self-sustaining economy driven by exports, particularly in high-value sectors such as defence manufacturing. Analysts say the agreement highlights the country’s expanding industrial capacity and its ability to compete in the global conventional arms market.

Over the past few years, Pakistan has made notable progress in strengthening its indigenous industrial base. Key areas of growth include defence technologies, large-scale manufacturing, information technology, artificial intelligence, mining and minerals, agriculture, and emerging digital sectors. Locally produced defence equipment has recently been showcased at major military exercises and exhibitions, drawing interest from international partners.

Pakistan has a long-standing history of supplying conventional weapons and military equipment to friendly countries. However, the Libya deal is being described as historic due to its scale, financial impact, and strategic significance. It is expected to generate substantial foreign exchange earnings while opening new markets for Pakistan’s defence products.

The agreement has also revived debate over the United Nations arms embargo on Libya. Security experts note that despite the formal embargo, weapons and military equipment have continued to flow into Libya from various international actors for more than a decade, limiting the embargo’s practical effectiveness.

With this development, Pakistan is positioning itself among emerging exporters of conventional arms and defence equipment. The deal is likely to strengthen Pakistan’s defence exports profile, enhance industrial growth, and reinforce its standing as a reliable supplier in the international defence market.
