ISLAMABAD: The government has decided to transfer the founder of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf, Imran Khan, to a hospital in view of concerns regarding his health, Parliamentary Affairs Minister Tariq Fazal Chaudhry said on Saturday, as opposition lawmakers continued their sit-in at Parliament House.

In a statement shared on social media, the minister said that Imran Khan has been facilitated to speak with his sons over the phone. He added that, keeping humanitarian considerations in mind, authorities have also approved his transfer to a hospital and the formation of a medical board to closely monitor and assess his condition.

The minister stressed that the government is acting in accordance with both legal requirements and humanitarian principles, noting that ensuring medical care and basic facilities for prisoners is a legal responsibility of the state.

He cautioned against politicising health-related matters, calling them sensitive issues that should be handled with care and responsibility. The minister urged political parties to avoid speculation and unnecessary rhetoric, emphasizing that the government is fulfilling its duties and that national maturity and restraint are needed at a time like this.
