QUETTA: At least seven people lost their lives and eight others were injured in a tragic road accident on the Makran Coastal Highway near Ormara late Friday night, rescue officials said.
The accident occurred around 2:30 AM near Neji, about 40 kilometers from Ormara, when two passenger vehicles collided after encountering a stalled oil tanker that had become an unexpected obstacle on the road.
According to officials, one vehicle was traveling from Gwadar to Karachi, while the other was heading from Karachi to Turbat. As both vehicles approached the stranded tanker on the highway, the sudden obstruction led to a powerful collision.
The impact was devastating. Several passengers died on the spot, while others suffered serious injuries. Rescue 1122 teams and Coastal Highway police quickly reached the scene and shifted the victims to a nearby hospital for treatment.
The deceased were identified as Mushtaq, son of Arbab from Shahdadkot; Bano from Hoshab; Ali Ahmed, son of Hasil Khan from Quetta; Ali Bakhsh, son of Abdul Ghafoor from Sonmiani; Karim Jan, son of Ali Jan from Turbat; and Dad Muhammad, son of Misri from Karachi.
Among the injured are Dinar Ali, son of Mehboob from Shahdadkot; Murtaza, son of Ghulam Mustafa from Korangi Karachi; Aman, son of Hussain from Hoshab; Noor Jan, daughter of Dinar; Iman, daughter of Aman; Pari, daughter of Din Muhammad; and Bilal, son of Zafar Alam.
Officials described the incident as one of the deadliest accidents in recent months on the Makran Coastal Highway, once again highlighting the dangers posed by broken-down heavy vehicles and limited road safety measures along the route. Authorities have urged drivers to remain cautious, especially during night travel on the highway.
