News Desk: A major education reform initiative in Balochistan has led to the establishment of 1,663 community schools in remote and underserved areas, while additional classrooms are being constructed in around 3,000 government schools to improve educational infrastructure and learning facilities across the province.
Education officials said the initiative has already enabled more than 100,000 children to enroll in schools, bringing a large number of previously out-of-school children back into the formal education system.
To strengthen teaching capacity and improve girls’ access to education, 1,085 female teachers have been recruited to serve in community schools and rural areas where female education has traditionally faced barriers.
Authorities stated that the provincial government has also set an ambitious target to enroll 261,000 additional children during the current year, as part of ongoing reforms aimed at expanding access to quality education in Balochistan.
According to officials, the federal government has allocated Rs121 billion for the education sector this year, representing approximately 13 percent of the national budget, signaling a broader commitment to improving educational services and infrastructure across the country.
Special Secretary Education Salam Khan Achakzai said that nearly 3,900 schools in Balochistan were previously reported closed due to administrative and operational challenges.
However, under the leadership of Chief Minister Mir Sarfraz Bugti, the provincial government launched a comprehensive drive to restore educational activities.
“As a result of these efforts, around 3,600 previously closed schools have been made functional again,” Achakzai said, adding that reforms are continuing to improve school access, infrastructure, and the overall quality of education in the province.
Education authorities emphasized that the opening of community schools, revival of closed institutions, recruitment of female teachers, and construction of additional classrooms are key components of a broader strategy to tackle the long-standing challenge of out-of-school children in Balochistan and strengthen the public education system.
