Quetta: The Balochistan government has ordered the arrest of a former Director General (DG) of the Food Department in connection with a major corruption and wheat embezzlement scandal involving millions of rupees, officials said.

According to sources, the Anti-Corruption Establishment (ACE) has been directed to initiate action under the Balochistan Enquiries and Anti-Corruption Rules, 2011. Former DG Jalal Kakar and Director Monitoring Muhammad Rahim have been accused of financial misappropriation, corruption, and irregularities in wheat procurement and distribution.

Authorities allege that the accused were involved in the illegal handling and diversion of government wheat stocks, causing significant losses to the national exchequer. The case is part of a broader crackdown on corruption within the Food Department, where multiple incidents of wheat theft and mismanagement have surfaced in recent years.

Officials confirmed that investigations are underway, and further action, including additional arrests, is expected as authorities intensify efforts to ensure transparency and accountability in the province’s food supply system.

The scandal has raised serious concerns over governance and oversight in Balochistan’s wheat procurement and distribution mechanisms, which directly impact food security and market stability in the region.
