Quetta: Chairing the third extraordinary meeting of the Balochistan Revenue Authority’s Advisory Council at the Chief Minister’s Secretariat on Wednesday, Chief Minister Mir Sarfraz Bugti emphasized the urgent need to expand the province’s own revenue resources in light of mounting non-development expenditures and shrinking development funds.
The meeting approved key reforms including audit rules, digitalization initiatives, and structural improvements aimed at making the revenue system more transparent, efficient, and modern. Chairman of the Balochistan Revenue Authority, Abdullah Khan, briefed the council on ongoing measures and performance, noting that half of the annual revenue target of Rs. 40 billion has already been achieved, with efforts underway to meet the full target.
CM Bugti directed that field operations be strengthened to ensure revenue targets are met. He underscored that expanding the tax net and leveraging modern technology are essential to automate and streamline tax collection. He also instructed that professional training be provided to revenue staff and that private-sector experts be engaged to enhance institutional capacity.
The council reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening Balochistan’s financial autonomy and improving the effectiveness of its revenue system. Provincial Finance Minister Mir Shoaib Nosherwani, Chief Secretary Shakeel Qadir Khan, Chairman BRA Abdullah Khan, Principal Secretary Imran Zarkoon, Secretary Excise and Taxation Syed Zafar Bukhari, and other senior officials attended the meeting.
