Quetta — Inspector General of Police Balochistan, Muhammad Tahir, stated that the Balochistan Police continue to play a vital role in maintaining law and order across the province through professionalism and dedication. He highlighted that over 1,139 police personnel have sacrificed their lives in the line of duty to protect citizens’ lives and property, calling these sacrifices a guiding force for the department.
He shared these remarks while briefing probationary officers from the National Institute of Public Administration during their study visit to the Central Police Office. Senior police officials and the Director General of NIPA, Syed Ali Raza Shah, were also present on the occasion.
The IGP noted that reforms were already underway before the merger of B-areas into A-areas in Balochistan, but efforts have now been accelerated to strengthen policing and governance. He revealed that during a special campaign launched last year, police arrested 780 proclaimed offenders, 1,466 absconders, and 1,404 criminals, while also recovering 26 kidnapped individuals.
He added that officers demonstrating outstanding performance are being recognized with commendation certificates and cash rewards. Coordination with other provinces has also been enhanced through the exchange of criminal records of wanted suspects.
Highlighting institutional improvements, the IGP said the establishment of the Serious Crime Wing has significantly helped in resolving complex and long-pending cases. He also emphasized that open courts (public forums) are regularly being held in different districts, which has helped rebuild public trust in the police.
To ensure timely complaint resolution, a dedicated complaint cell has been set up at the Central Police Office, while citizens can also register complaints through WhatsApp and toll-free numbers. Additionally, Safe City cameras are being used to monitor traffic and criminal activity, yielding encouraging results.
The IGP further stated that former Levies personnel, after being integrated into the police force, are receiving modern training and showing impressive performance. He also underlined that a dedicated department is working for the welfare and support of police martyrs’ families, addressing their concerns and needs.
He noted that the police department follows a system of accountability, where good performance is rewarded and poor performance is penalized. Beyond law enforcement, Balochistan Police have also actively assisted the public during natural disasters such as heavy rains, snowfall, and floods by rescuing stranded individuals and ensuring their safety.
A rescue unit has also been established in Ziarat Valley, where female staff are part of the team, providing emergency assistance to tourists when needed.
At the end of the briefing, commemorative shields were exchanged between the Inspector General of Police Balochistan and the Director General of NIPA.
