News Desk: In a strong show of international support, Mexico, Brazil, and Spain have pledged increased humanitarian aid to Cuba, while calling for respect for its sovereignty amid rising pressure from Donald Trump.
The announcement came during a high-level meeting of global leaders in Barcelona, where concerns over the Cuba humanitarian crisis and US-Cuba tensions dominated discussions. The three countries expressed “grave concern” over the worsening situation in Cuba and committed to boosting coordinated relief efforts to support the Cuban population.
Cuba’s Future Must be Determined by Its Own People
The United States embargo on Cuba, in place since the Cold War, has intensified under the Trump administration. Recent measures include restrictions on oil supplies from Venezuela and threats of sanctions against countries supplying fuel to Cuba. These actions have contributed to severe fuel shortages, power outages, and economic strain across the island.
In their joint statement, the three nations emphasized adherence to international law and the principles of the United Nations Charter, including sovereignty, territorial integrity, and peaceful conflict resolution. They stressed that Cuba’s future must be determined by its own people, free from external interference.
President Trump Has Hinted at Possible Military Action Against Cuba
The statement was endorsed by Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum, Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez, and Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, highlighting growing global concern over the situation.
Meanwhile, President Trump has hinted at possible military action against Cuba following ongoing tensions linked to the US-Israel conflict involving Iran. His administration continues to argue that Cuba’s economic crisis is the result of internal mismanagement.
Cuban President Miguel Díaz-Canel has strongly rejected external pressure, reaffirming his government’s stance on defending national sovereignty and resisting foreign intervention.
The latest developments underscore rising geopolitical tensions while reinforcing calls for diplomatic solutions and humanitarian support to address the crisis in Cuba.
