QUETTA: Governor Balochistan Sheikh Jaffar Khan Mandokhail has reaffirmed the government’s commitment to press freedom, stating that truth and transparency can only prevail in an environment where freedom of expression is protected.
Addressing an award ceremony held in Quetta, he acknowledged the resilience and professionalism of journalists working across Balochistan, noting that media personnel have continued to perform their duties responsibly despite challenging conditions. He said their commitment to factual reporting has played a key role in presenting a more accurate and positive image of the province at national and international levels.
The event, organised by the Balochistan International Think Tank, honoured journalists for their contributions to responsible journalism. Speaking on the occasion, senior media representatives and organisers also highlighted the importance of ethical reporting and the role of journalism in strengthening democratic values.
The ceremony was attended by prominent members of the journalist community, including office-bearers of the Quetta Press Club and the Balochistan Union of Journalists, along with other media professionals and analysts.
During the event, the governor was presented with the “Nelson Mandela International Civil Award” in recognition of his decades-long public service and contributions to political and social development in the province.
He also distributed awards among journalists from various media organisations, acknowledging their dedication and efforts in upholding professional standards in a demanding environment.
