Syed Ali Shah:

Quetta, April 30, 2026 — Balochistan’s newly launched air ambulance service is being hailed as a major breakthrough in Pakistan’s emergency healthcare system, especially for patients living in remote and hard-to-reach districts of the province.

Unlike ordinary aircraft, the air ambulance has been specially designed to function as a flying emergency care unit, allowing qualified doctors and trained medical technicians to provide life-saving treatment to patients during transport, Bakht Muhammad Kakar, Balochistan’s Health Minister told Quetta Voice via phone.

What Facilities Are Available Inside the Air Ambulance?

According to officials, the aircraft is equipped with modern emergency medical equipment needed to stabilize critically ill or injured patients before reaching hospitals.

Key Features and Equipment Include:

  • Ventilator Support:
The air ambulance includes ventilators to assist patients suffering from breathing difficulties, trauma, or critical illnesses requiring respiratory support.
  • Advanced Patient Stretcher System:
A specialized medical stretcher allows patients to be safely secured during flight, ensuring stable transport even in emergency situations.
  • Oxygen Supply Units:
Continuous oxygen support is available for patients facing respiratory emergencies or severe injuries.
  • Emergency Monitoring Equipment:
Medical monitors help doctors and technicians track vital signs including heartbeat, blood pressure, oxygen levels, and pulse during transit.
  • Emergency Medicines and First Aid:
The aircraft carries essential emergency medicines and life-saving medical supplies for immediate treatment.
  • Trained Medical Staff Onboard:

Qualified doctors and trained health medical technicians will accompany patients inside the aircraft to provide emergency care throughout the journey.

  • Rapid Medical Evacuation Capability:
The service is expected to significantly reduce the time required to shift critically ill patients from remote districts to major hospitals in Quetta or other cities.

A Lifeline for Remote Areas

For years, patients from distant areas of Balochistan often faced dangerous delays due to long road journeys and poor transportation infrastructure. In severe emergencies, families sometimes had to arrange expensive private air transfers to Karachi, reportedly costing millions of rupees.

Officials say the new public air ambulance service aims to make emergency medical evacuation faster, more accessible, and affordable for ordinary citizens.

More Than Transportation

Health experts believe the initiative is not just about transportation but about delivering critical care while the patient is in transit — something that can make the difference between life and death in trauma, cardiac emergencies, or severe medical conditions.

The project is also expected to help improve emergency response systems in the province by introducing specialized airborne medical operations involving trained doctors and emergency healthcare technicians.

The launch marks the first time a province in Pakistan has introduced a public-sector air ambulance service equipped for advanced emergency medical response.
