News Desk: Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl has postponed its planned long march towards Quetta after the provincial government assured the party that the ongoing crackdown on madrassas and arrests of seminary students would be stopped.

Speaking at a press conference on Wednesday, Maulana Abdul Wasey said the protest, scheduled for May 10, was delayed following talks with the Balochistan government. He said Chief Minister Mir Sarfraz Bugti assured the party that raids on religious seminaries would end.

Abdul Wasey said JUI-F had planned the march to protest against alleged raids on madrassas and the detention of students in several districts. He warned that the party could resume protests if the government failed to fulfill its commitments.

The issue of madrassa crackdowns and action against foreign students has triggered political debate across Balochistan, with religious parties demanding an immediate halt to arrests and raids.
