News Desk: Pakistan has warned that any deliberate attempt to disrupt or restrict water supplies vital to the country would have serious consequences, urging India to refrain from using water as a political tool amid growing tensions over shared river resources.

Addressing a weekly media briefing on Thursday, Foreign Office spokesperson Tahir Andrabi said Pakistan considers its water rights non-negotiable and would take all necessary diplomatic, legal, political, and economic measures to protect them. He emphasized that water is essential for the livelihoods, agriculture, and well-being of more than 250 million people and should never be used as an instrument of coercion.

The statement came in response to recent remarks by Indian officials regarding water management and future plans concerning river flows. Andrabi stressed that any move affecting water resources shared between the two countries would undermine regional stability and violate established international commitments governing transboundary rivers.

Calling for restraint, he urged India to act responsibly and avoid steps that could escalate tensions in South Asia. He added that Pakistan would continue closely monitoring developments related to water resources originating from territories under Indian control.

Pakistan Raises Concerns Over India’s Military Expansion

The Foreign Office also voiced concern over India’s expanding strategic and military capabilities, saying recent developments could affect the balance of power in South Asia.

According to Andrabi, advancements in missile systems, naval deterrence platforms, and long-range strategic capabilities have implications for regional and global security. While reiterating that Pakistan does not seek a military competition, he said the country remains committed to maintaining strategic stability and an effective deterrence posture.

He called on the international community to carefully assess emerging security challenges and their potential impact on peace and stability in the region.

Government Continues Efforts to Free Pakistani Sailors

On the issue of Pakistani crew members held hostage by pirates off the Somali coast, Andrabi said their safe release remains a top priority for the government.

He noted that Pakistan is working closely with Somali authorities, the vessel’s owners, and relevant stakeholders to secure the freedom of the detained sailors. Diplomatic engagement at the highest levels is ongoing, with senior officials maintaining regular contact to facilitate their safe return.

Despite operational challenges, the spokesperson expressed hope that continued coordination and diplomatic efforts would lead to a positive resolution.

Pakistan Supports Diplomacy and Regional Peace

Commenting on wider regional conflicts, Andrabi said Pakistan remains committed to diplomacy, dialogue, and peaceful conflict resolution. He acknowledged that ongoing hostilities in different regions have narrowed diplomatic space but maintained that negotiations remain the most effective path toward lasting peace.

The spokesperson reaffirmed Pakistan’s readiness to engage with regional and international partners to reduce tensions and support efforts aimed at restoring stability and security.
