ISLAMABAD: Pakistan, Saudi Arabia and Türkiye have entered a new chapter in their strategic relationship by signing a landmark trilateral defence pact aimed at strengthening military cooperation, enhancing regional security and expanding collaboration in defence technology, training and joint operations.
The agreement builds on decades of close defence ties among the three countries. Pakistan has long been a key defence partner of Saudi Arabia, providing military training, technical expertise and operational support to the Kingdom’s armed forces for several decades.
Pakistan and Türkiye have also maintained a robust military partnership, regularly conducting joint exercises, exchanging warships and training aircraft, and working together on defence production and technology.
The trilateral defence pact is expected to deepen cooperation in intelligence sharing, military training, defence industries, counterterrorism, air and naval coordination, and strategic planning, further strengthening the collective security framework of the three nations.
In a major milestone for regional defence cooperation, Saudi Arabia signed an agreement in 2023 to purchase Turkish-made drones, a deal that Ankara described as the largest defence export contract in Türkiye’s history at the time.
Pakistan has also significantly contributed to the Kingdom’s security by deploying around 8,000 military personnel, along with fighter jets, drones and advanced air defence systems, highlighting the depth of Islamabad’s defence partnership with Riyadh.
The newly signed defence pact is being viewed as a significant step towards institutionalising military cooperation among Pakistan, Saudi Arabia and Türkiye, reinforcing their shared commitment to regional peace, security and strategic stability.
