QUETTA: The Balochistan Safe City Authority has made significant progress in strengthening law enforcement, crime prevention and public safety through modern surveillance technology, identifying 138 stolen vehicles from across Pakistan.
The authority also helped prevent potential major acts of terrorism by identifying nine suspicious activities through its surveillance and monitoring system, according to a briefing.
The development was discussed during a high-level meeting of the Balochistan Safe City Authority, chaired by Balochistan Chief Minister Mir Sarfraz Bugti.
During the meeting, Inspector General of Police Balochistan Muhammad Tahir Khan briefed the chief minister on the authority’s performance, surveillance operations and measures taken to improve public security.
The meeting was informed that the Balochistan Safe City Authority had provided police with 631 key pieces of evidence related to different crime scenes, supporting investigations and helping law enforcement agencies take timely action.
The briefing highlighted the role of the Safe City Surveillance System in crime detection, monitoring suspicious activities and improving police response mechanisms. The identification of suspicious activities through real-time monitoring also contributed to preventing potential terrorist incidents.
The meeting also decided to seek technical and operational support from the Punjab Safe Cities Authority to further enhance the capacity of the Balochistan Safe City Authority.
In this regard, Chief Minister Mir Sarfraz Bugti has written to the Chief Minister of Punjab, requesting assistance and technical cooperation to strengthen the operational capacity of the Balochistan Safe City Authority.
The meeting was further informed that the 15 Madadgar Emergency Response Service has been placed under the Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) to strengthen the emergency response and security mechanism.
Speaking at the meeting, Chief Minister Mir Sarfraz Bugti said that the Balochistan Safe City Authority was playing an effective role in maintaining law and order and preventing crime across the province.
He said the effective use of modern technology would further improve the protection of citizens’ lives and property.
“Strengthening the Safe City system and bringing it in line with modern requirements is among the government’s priorities,” the chief minister said.
Mir Sarfraz Bugti emphasized that the timely identification of crimes and suspicious activities could make police operations more effective and enable law enforcement agencies to respond rapidly to emerging threats.
He said Balochistan would benefit from the experience and expertise of the Punjab Safe Cities Authority to enhance the province’s surveillance and security infrastructure.
The chief minister further directed that the modern surveillance system be expanded to additional areas of Balochistan to improve public safety and strengthen law enforcement.
He described the performance of the Safe City Authority as encouraging and called for greater use of modern technology to accelerate crime prevention, surveillance and emergency response.
The Balochistan government, he added, was working to strengthen modern surveillance technology and an effective security and emergency response mechanism to ensure a safer environment for citizens.
