News Desk: Security forces have killed 48 terrorists in counterterrorism operations across Balochistan, the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) said on Friday.
The operations were conducted over the past 48 to 72 hours in Mastung, Quetta, Kalat and Sibi, targeting groups the military identified as Fitna-al-Hindustan and Fitna-al-Khawarij.
According to the ISPR, six terrorists were killed in Mastung during an intelligence-based operation after security forces detected their movement. Ammunition and improvised explosive devices (IEDs) were also recovered and destroyed.
In Shaban, Quetta, security forces targeted four suspected terrorist hideouts. The ensuing operation resulted in the deaths of 26 terrorists, according to the military.
Another operation in Kalat district led to the killing of two terrorists, while security forces also foiled an attempted attack on a police station in Bhag, Sibi district, killing two more terrorists.
The ISPR said a total of 48 terrorists were neutralised across Balochistan during the latest operations.
12 More Terrorists Killed in Kalat
The latest announcement followed a separate ISPR statement regarding an operation conducted in Kalat on September 2, in which 12 terrorists were killed.
Security forces targeted a suspected hideout following intelligence reports about the presence of terrorists. Ammunition and IEDs were also destroyed at the site.
Sanitisation operations were launched to search for any remaining threats in the area.
President Zardari Praises Security Forces
President Asif Ali Zardari praised the security forces for their counterterrorism operations in Balochistan.
According to the president, official figures show that more than 1,188 terrorists have been killed in Balochistan during 2026.
He reiterated the government’s resolve to eliminate what it described as foreign-backed terrorism and praised the security forces for their continued operations.
Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi also commended the security forces, saying the latest operations demonstrated their ability to prevent terrorist attacks and protect civilians and state institutions.
Terrorist Attack Foiled in Bhag
Meanwhile, the Balochistan government said security forces and police foiled a coordinated terrorist attack in Bhag, where attackers targeted a police station, a bank and the assistant commissioner’s office.
Officials said around 40 terrorists were involved in the attack and used heavy weapons, including rocket launchers, machine guns, sniper rifles and hand grenades.
Police reportedly resisted the attackers for nearly two hours and prevented them from taking control of the police station or seizing weapons.
Two policemen and three civilians were injured during the attack. Authorities also defused an IED planted at the targeted site.
Terrorism Threat Intensifies in Balochistan
The latest operations come amid a rise in terrorist incidents across Balochistan.
Recent attacks have targeted security personnel, government installations and other state institutions in different parts of the province.
The Pakistan Institute for Conflict and Security Studies (PICSS) reported that terrorist attacks in Balochistan increased from 83 in July to 89 in August, representing a seven per cent rise.
The latest security operations underscore the continuing counterterrorism challenge in Balochistan and the intensified efforts by security forces to prevent further attacks across the province.
