Emergency response teams have wrapped up search and rescue operations at PMDC Coal Mine 151 in the Shahrag area of Harnai district following a tragic gas explosion that claimed four lives and left five others critically injured.

According to local authorities and police sources, a sudden accumulation of hazardous, toxic gas inside the underground shaft triggered the blast, trapping all nine laborers working in the section at the time.

Rescue personnel successfully retrieved all nine workers from the mine shaft. Emergency medical staff immediately stabilized the five surviving victims before transferring them to advanced trauma care facilities in Quetta due to the severity of their injuries.

Local police confirmed that the bodies of the four deceased workers have been formally handed over to their immediate families for burial arrangements. All nine individuals affected by the incident hailed from the Swat district of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
