Haseeb Khan: Balochistan High Court (BHC) has sought details of the proposed Balochistan Assembly building project in the federal Public Sector Development Programme (PSDP) while hearing a petition challenging the demolition of the existing assembly building.
A two-member bench comprising BHC Chief Justice Muhammad Kamran Khan Mulakhail and Justice Najamuddin Mengal heard the petition.
During the hearing, Balochistan Advocate General Abdul Latif Kakar informed the court that the new assembly building was a federally funded project and that funds had already been approved.
The Chief Justice directed the authorities to clarify whether the Balochistan Assembly building project was formally included in the federal PSDP.
Chief Justice Mulakhail observed that, according to the information available to him, three to four projects concerning Balochistan were included in the federal PSDP. He further remarked that he had received information that the assembly building project had been dropped.
The petitioner maintained that the existing Balochistan Assembly building was a historic structure and part of the province’s heritage. The petitioner urged the court to stop its demolition and ensure its preservation.
The Balochistan High Court directed the relevant authorities to provide complete details of the Balochistan Assembly project in the federal PSDP.
The court adjourned the hearing of the petition against the proposed demolition of the Balochistan Assembly building until October 7.
