Khalid Bizenjo elected as Senator

Khalid Bizenjo elected as senator from Balochistan on Saturday evening. The election for the seat in the upper house held at the hall of the Balochistan Assembly. The seat fell vacant after the demise of late Mir Hasil Khan Bizenjo.

BAP candidate got 38 votes 

Khalid Bizenjo of the ruling Balochistan Awami Party (BAP) got 38 votes and Ghousullah from Jamiat ul Ulema e Islam (F) got 21 votes. The number of voters in the Balochistan Assembly is 65 and 61 legislators cast their votes. The JUF candidate enjoyed the support of opposition legislators, whereas, Khalid Bizenjo was backed by coalition partners in the provincial cabinet.

Senator Hasil Bizenjo died in Karachi 

Hasil Bizenjo died after a protracted illness at a private hospital in Karachi on August 20th this year. He was the idealogue of the National Party, a Baloch liberal nationalist group.

The presiding officer did not allow the private media to cover the vote casting. However, only the state-run Pakistan Television covered whole proceedings of the vote casting. After this victory, now the BAP has come out as the largest parliamentary group in the upper house from Balochistan.

The administration had taken strict security measures on the eve of the election to avert any untoward incident.
