QUETTA: Scholars from various religions, politicians, members of civil society, journalists on Monday underlined the need for making joint efforts to establish a tolerant and progressive society in the country. The conference was organized by Balochistan Rural Support Program (BRSP) in collaboration with Islamic Research Institute and Islamic University.

The speakers stressed the need for tolerance in line with the teaching of Islam to promote religious harmony in the country. Balochistan Agriculture Minister, Zamarak Achakzai, opposition leader in Balochistan Assembly, Malik Sikandar Advocate, former federal minister Roshan Khursheed Bharucha, Maulan Anwar ul Haq Haqqani, Qari Abdul Rasheed, Allama Hashim Mosvi, from Sikh community Sardar Jasbeer Singh, Kanesh Laal Rajput, Nasrullah Bareech of Center for Peace and Development, senior journalists Shehzada Zulfiqar, Syed Ali Shah, Dr. Bacha Khan, Dr. Attau Rehman and others participated in the conference. Chief of BRSP, NadirĀ  Gul Bareech briefed the participants of the meeting with regard to the importance of the conference.

“Islam is the religion of peace and we have tolerate other religions as well”, Balochistan Agriculture Minister Zamarak Achakzai who belongs to Awami National Party (ANP) told the conference.

The religious scholars spoke at lenght about the teaching of Islam and promoting interfaith harmony to make Pakistan a strong country in the comity of nations. We have complete freedom of worship in Pakistan and our country supports religious harmony, Sikh, Hindu and Christian scholars said.

Pakistan is home to all religions and we have tolerance for all, Sardar Jasbeer Singh said in his speech to the conference.

Speaking on the occasion, former federal minister Roshan Khursheed Bharucha said there should be such conferences to promote mutual understanding. She said Pakistan has played an important role in the region and on international level to promote tolerance and peace across the globe.

The speakers said the Pakistan has faced a lot of difficulties and played a key role in fighting terrorism and extremism. In this war, Pakistan has rendered great sacrifices, they mentioned.
