Quetta Administration apprehends 120 heroin addicts

The Quetta Administration conducted an operation against drug peddlers and addicts in various parts of the city. During the operation, the administration apprehended 120 drug addicts, the Deputy Commissioner Quetta, Major (R) Aurangzaib Badini tweeted. It was a joint operation by the Anti-Narcotics Force (ANF), Police, social welfare department, and municipal corporation Quetta, he mentioned.
Mr. Badini stated that hideouts of the drug peddlers also demolished during the operation. He however did not mention whether any drug peddler arrested during the action or not.
“Drug addicts shifted to rehabilitation center”, the Deputy Commissioner Quetta said.

In Quetta’s Main Nullah, drug peddlers and addicts have established their safe havens. Despite repeated operations, the addicts manage to re-group inside the Nullah that snakes through the high security zone of Quetta city. “If you have money, buying heroin is not an issue”, Ajab Khan, an heroin addict who managed to escape from the operation told Quetta Voice. Like Ajab Khan, scores of heroin addicts have been begging on Quetta’s Jinnah road to get money from the people to smoke heroin.
“This addiction is disastrous we even steal things to pay the drug peddlers”, Mr. Khan informed.

Sources in the ANF revealed that the drug smugglers use 62 unfrequnted routes to smuggle heroin and other narcotics into Pakistan. They use rugged mountains, deserts and plains in Balochistan to sneak into Iran to smuggle narcotics to European countries, they mentioned.
“Smugglers are well-equipped and armed, our soldiers have sacrificed lives during battle against drugs”, they said.
