Fisheries Scandal: NAB Balochistan arrests 2 company owners

QUETTA: The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) Balochistan arrested 2 company owners in the fisheries department and costal development corruption scandal. NAB had unearthed Rs. 1 b corruption in the coastal development and arrested the serving Director-General Fisheries and a former secretary.
NAB arrested Hamza Bin Tariq, the Chief of boats manufacturing company and owner of another company Amir Shehzad, NAB spokesman said. The judge of the accountability court Munawar Ahmed Shahwani handed over both the accused to NAB on 12 days-remand on Thursday morning.
Both the accused shifted to NAB’s regional headquarter for interrogation. NAB Balochistan has made these arrests on the directives of Chairman Justice (R) Javed Iqbal, the spokesman added.
NAB earlier arrested DG Fisheries Balochistan and former secretary
NAB officials after a thorough investigation arrested Munir Ahmed Mosiani, the DG Fisheries Balochistan, and secretary fisheries Aftab Baloch over charges of corruption. The accused had granted contracts to the aforesaid companies in violation of the merit and rules. They had also paid huge amounts to them without the purchase of machinery and other equipment.
NAB Balochistan has intensified raids and operations in the province and arrested a number of corrupt elements. The anti-graft institution has also filed references against former provincial ministers and other high ups in corruption scandals.
A reference filed against PPP leader: NAB also filed a reference against Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) leader and former provincial minister Mir Sadiq Umrani in an embezzlement case. Mr. Umrani accused of allotment of 100 acre land of clerks association at cheaper rates.
The NAB spokesman said a reference filed in the accountability court against the former Balochistan minister for inflicting a financial loss of Rs. 28 crores to the national exchequer.
