Polio team attacked in Karak, a security official martyred

Gunmen attacked a polio team in Khyber Pukhtoonkhwa’s Karak and martyred a security official. Police said the security official was guarding the polio team when attacked by armed men. However, the polio team was unhurt during the attack.
The police official martyred in the attack identified as Junaid. The attack comes on the second day of the anti-polio drive across Pakistan.
A five-day national polio immunization drive began from Monday to vaccinate over 40 million children under the age of five across the country. A supplementary dose of Vitamin A drops will also be administered to children aged 6 to 59 months during the campaign to help build general immunity among susceptible children to protect them from polio and other diseases.
According to the Pakistan Polio Eradication Programme, around 285,000 polio frontline workers will visit parents and caregivers at their doorsteps, adhering to strict coronavirus precautionary measures and protocols while vaccinating children.
