Senate elections: Hashmi, Hyderi, Sarfaraz Bugti, Sajid Tareen strong candidates in Balochistan

QUETTA: Political parties on Saturday finalized the names of their candidates for the upcoming senate elections in the country. Over 200 candidates had received nomination papers for the upcoming senate elections in Balochistan.

The ruling Balochistan Awami Party (BAP) has fielded senior parliamentarian Saeed Ahmed Hashmi, Manzoor Kakar on technocrats seats, Aurangzaib Jamaldini, Sarfaraz Bugti, Sitara Ayaz on general seats, Jamiat ul Ulema e Islam (JUI), Maulana Abdul Ghafoor Hyderi, Balochistan National Party (M) fielded Sajid Tareen Advocate, Awami National Party (ANP) has fielded seasoned Pashtoon nationalist leader, Dr. Inayatullah Khan.

Coalition partners fielded their candidates

Coalition partners in the BAP led government including Hazara Democratic Party (HDP) and Balochistan National Party (Awami) have also fielded their candidates.

The ruling party, the Pakistan Tehrik e Insaf (PTI) has fielded Abdul Qadir, a little-known personality for the general seat. The nomination of the latter has created resentment among the PTI Balochistan leaders.

“We cannot accept nomination of Abdul Qadir”, Babar Yousafzai said

“We cannot accept this nomination”, Babar Yousafzai, the PTI Balochistan chapter spokesman said. He said, “we cannot accept an outsider”.  BNP Mengal legislator, Sanaullah Baloch took to social media network and said, “this is now senate chamber of businessmen and traders”. He did not pinpoint the names of the outsiders who are businessmen.

In Balochistan, the treasury and opposition benches have been testing their muscles to win maximum seats out of a total of 12 seats. The elections are scheduled to be held on March 3 in Balochistan like in other parts of the country.

BNP Mengal, JUI F trying hard to win maximum seats 

The ruling BAP is expected to win more seats. However, the JUI (F) the second largest, and BNP (Mengal), the third-largest parliamentary party is also testing muscles to win maximum seats.

Political parties like the PTI, HDP, ANP are also in contact with legislators for the success of their candidates. Former chief ministers Nawab Muhammad Aslam Khan Raisani and Nawab Sanaullah Zehri are yet to make a formal announcement about their support to any candidate.

Nasrullah Zairai of Pashtoonkhwa Milli Awami Party (PKMA) has also not announced formal support to any candidate.
