BAP candidate Sitara Ayaz withdraws from senate poll

Sitara Ayaz, the Balochistan Awami Party (BAP) candidate has withdrawn from the fast-approaching senate polls. Sitara Ayaz had submitted her nomination papers for the senate’s general seat. Senate elections would be across the country on March 3rd as the schedule, the election commission of Pakistan announced.

The ruling BAP had nominated her for the general seat. In the presence of chief minister Balochistan, Jam Kamal Khan, and other women legislators, she announced withdrawal from the senate election.

Sitara Ayaz belongs to the Swabi area of KP 

Sitara Ayaz belongs to Swabi area of Khyber Pukhtoonkhwa. The Awami National Party (ANP) had elected her on a senate seat in the past.

Now a total of 18 candidates are testing their muscles to win 7 general seats from Balochistan. However, the ruling party has the majority in the house of 65  and has six candidates contesting for seven general seats.

35 candidates testing muscles for 12 senate seats 

In Balochistan, 35 candidates are contesting for 12 senate seats including 7 general, 2 women, 2 technocrats, and 1 minority seat. The number of legislators from the ruling coalition is 42. However, the component parties of the Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM) make 23 in the house of 65.

The ruling coalition offers 4 senate seats to PDM 

The ruling coalition had offered 4 seats to the component parties of the anti-government alliance. Chairman Senate Sadiq Sanjrani made this offer to the Balochistan National Party (Mengal) Chief Sardar Akhtar Mengal.

However, the anti-government alliance turned down the offer of the ruling coalition.
