Employees protest: Roads remain blocked in Quetta for third consecutive day

Main roads in Quetta remain blocked as a result of protest by government employees in Quetta, the capital of Balochistan province. Members of grand-alliance of employees blocked the main hockey chowk and other roads leading towards Red Zone.
“Our protest will continue till acceptance of demands”, Abdul Malik Kakar, a leader of the Secretariat Staff Association said. For a third consecutive day, the employees are staging a sit-in in Quetta to press the government for acceptance of their demands.
Patients, students aged people remained the worst sufferers of protest
Sit-in and protest camps established by employees caused the worst traffic jam in Quetta. Students, patients, and aged people remained the worst sufferers of employees protest. “I have been waiting along with my kids for last one hour to reach my home”, Muhammad Azam, a vehicle owner told Quetta Voice.
Like Azam, hundreds of vehicle owners were waiting for the opening of the road to reach their destinations near civil hospital Quetta.
“Our demand is for a 25 percent increase in salaries”, Habib Mardanzai, a leader of the government teachers association Balochistan said.
CM takes hard on the employees
However, the provincial government has turned down the demands of the employees. “These employees demanding Rs. 15bs extra”, Chief Minister Balochistan, Jam Kamal Khan said the other day.
The Balochistan government has also formed a committee headed by the finance minister, Mir Zahoor Buledi to prepare recommendations. However, the protesting employees rejected the committee and called for a solution to their issues.
Security tightened
The government has placed police on a high alert to maintain the law and order situation in the city. The administration has put containers, barbed wires to stop the protesters from the protest outside the CM and Governor’s houses.
