Balochistan High Court directs employees to end protest

QUETTA: The Balochistan High Court (BHC) directed the government employees to end the protest on Friday. A division bench of the BHC comprising Chief Justice, Mr. Justice Jamal Mandokhail and Mr. Justice Kamran Malakhail asked the employees to bring an end to the ongoing protest.
Advocate General Balochistan, Arbab Tahir Kasi, leaders of the Grand Employees Alliance (GEA) appeared before the court. The court directed the government to take action against the absent teachers.
Senior lawyer, Naseebullah Tareen advocate had filed a petition in the court with regard to the ongoing protest of government employees in the province. Mr. Tareen had demanded of the court to order the government to increase the salaries by 25 percent like in other parts of the country.
Teachers protest caused postponement of matric paper
Matric examinations could not be held because of strikes by teachers. The government teachers association Balochistan had announced to boycott the examinations. “Since morning, I have been waiting, but there is not a teacher”, Bilal Ahmed, a student lamented. Bilal was waiting outside the Shafiq Ahmed Khan Shaheed High School Quetta.
The government had announced to hold the examinations despite the strike. However, the protesting teachers refused to perform their dues. The court directed the government to take action against the absent teachers.
1,26,000 students to appear in the exam
A total of 1,26,000 male and female students would appear in the examination, Shaukat Ali Sarpara, the controller of Balochistan Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education (BBISE) told daily Quetta Voice. In the morning, thousands of male and female students reached examination halls. But returning to their homes in despair because of the strike.
There was no immediate reaction from the government about the boycott announcement made by protesting teachers
