QUETTA: A seven month old child fell prey to the crippling virus in Balochistan’s Pishin district on Saturday. Sources in emergency operation cell told Quetta Voice, polio virus was confirmed in seven month old child in Thrata area of district Pishin.
Sample of the child was collected on February 3rd this month and the virus was confirmed after verification, they said. Both lower limbs of the kid have been paralysed, the sources stated. Reason behind fresh case of polio could not be known immediately.
This is second polio cases in Balochistan during the current year. During the year 2019, 12 polio cases were reported in Balochistan.
An anti polio campaign is scheduled to be launched by health department, UNICEF and other organizations in all 33 districts of Balochistan from February 17th. Over two million children below the age of five years would be administered polio drops during the campaign. Security has been tightened to make sure peaceful campaign in Balochistan.
