First power show of opposition in Gujranwala, Punjab

All leaders of mainstream opposition political parties reached Gujranwala to address the first anti-government public meeting. Pakistan Muslim League (N) leader, Maryam Nawaz Sharif, Chairman Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, chief of Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM), Maulana Fazal ur Rehman reached the venue of the public meeting to address the workers.

However, the federal information minister, Shibli Faraz has termed the public meeting as a gathering of all corrupt people to deceive the masses. They cannot deceive the people anymore, he said. The minister said the masses rejected what he called “these opportunists and corrupt” people.

PDM announced a series of protest meetings across the country 

An anti-government alliance i.e, the PDM announced a series of public meetings against the Pakistan Tehrik e Insaf (PTI) led government in the country. PML (N) leader Maryam Nawaz tweeted. “There is an ocean of people front, back, right & left. This is unprecedented,” she earlier wrote, sharing pictures and videos of the supporters accompanying her convoy.

Bilawal energized his supporters through a brief talk during the journey at Wazirabad, saying the opposition parties will jointly work to rid the people of “this oppressive ruler”. Bilawal lashed at the present government for what he claimed its failed policies. He said the opposition had taken to streets against “historic” unemployment, inflation, and poverty.

Former Prime Minister, Shahid Khanqan Abbasi while addressing the workers said, ‘this is the victory of Pakistan”. He said the movement would continue until the removal of the present government. Hundreds of supporters and workers had started gathering at the Jinnah Stadium, Gujranwala, in the afternoon after arriving from different cities in the form of rallies. They are chanting slogans and waving flags of the various opposition parties that are part of the PDM alliance, as opposition anthems are played on loudspeakers.
