Levies of 3 Balochistan districts to work under police command

Levies Force of 3 districts of Balochistan would work under the operational command of the Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP)/SP. Home and tribal affairs Balochistan issued a notification in this regard on Thursday.

The districts include Quetta, Lasbella, and Gwadar. The Balochistan government had already converted the three districts from ‘B’ to ‘A’ area in August 2019. Levies force of the three districts would perform their duties under the operational command of the SSP/SP police, the notification mentioned.

Earlier, the Levies force of the three districts was under the operational command of deputy commissioners. In Balochistan, the deputy commissioners have been the operational commanders of the levies force in their respective districts.

Naseerabad and Jaffarabad districts have already been converted into police areas from levies. Levies force merged into police forces during former president Pervez Musharraf’s government. However, the Pakistan people’s party-led government under the chief minister, Nawab Muhammad Aslam Raisani had restored the levies force.
