Chilly weather in Quetta as gas supply disappears

Quetta and most parts of Balochistan are under the grip of chilly weather for the last two days. Chilling winds coupled with dust forced people to be confined to their homes. However, no or low gas pressure in Quetta, Ziarat, Kalat, Pishin, Mastung areas have compounded the problems of the masses. The temperature in Quetta city has dropped to -8 celsius.
People switched to traditional stoves as gas supply disappears
“We have switched to traditional stoves to battle prevailing chilly weather”, Muhammad Ashraf, a resident of Pashtoonbabad said. Ashraf said, “we bought woods after a long time for stoves”.
Low or no gas pressure forced people in various parts of Quetta, Mastung, and other areas of Balochistan to stage protest demonstrations against company officials. Apart from the gas supply, people have also complained about electricity load shedding in the province.
The chilling Quetta winds have moved towards Karachi, breaking a seven-year-old record of the lowest temperature in the city. “These winds will continue to hit Karachi until Wednesday, lowering the city’s temperature to a single digit,” it said.
Rainfall system entered northern Balochistan from today
According to the Met Office, a new system of rainfall has entered North Balochistan, which leads to rain and snowfall in these areas from today (Monday). “Quetta, Zhob, Ziarat, and Barkhan areas will witness downpour while snowfall in mountainous regions,” the Pakistan Metrological Department said. Ziarat has already witnessed winter’s first snowfall.
In Quetta, most of the people have covered their faces with traditional shawls to avoid dust and cold-waves. Chilly weather has severely affected routine life as people preferred to stay at home. Attendance in government offices also remained low.
