‘Honor’ killing claims 2 lives in Balochistan’s Naseerabad

Dera Murad Jamali: ‘Honor’ killing claimed 2 lives in Balochistan’s Naseerabad district on Wednesday morning. Shaman Ali Solangi, a police officer told Quetta Voice the incident happened in the Manjo Shori area of Naseerabad district.
Solangi said an accused identified as Altaf Hussain opened fire and killed his daughter and another man on suspicion of illicit relations. “This was an act of honor killing”, he said. He however said police quickly retaliated and arrested the accused Altaf Hussain along with weapons used in the murder incident. “The accused brought to justice as per the law”, Solangi stated.
The accused shifted to the police station for interrogation. The dead bodies shifted to the district headquarters hospital in Naseerabad for postmortem. Panic prevailed in the area in the aftermath of the incident.
Incidents ‘honor’ killings on a constant rise in the area
‘Honor’ killings have claimed scores of precious human lives in Naseerabad, Jaffarabad districts of Balochistan. Human rights groups have expressed a concerned voice-over increasing acts of honor killings in the area. In most of the cases, the killers are still at large.
“This year the number of such untoward incidents increased”, Allauddin Khilji, the chief of Aurat Foundation Balochistan chapter said. He said impunity appears to be one of the underlying reasons behind increasing violent acts against women in Balochistan.
Khilji stated that Balochistan has witnessed a rise in acts of violence against women in Quetta and other parts of the province during the year 2020. The Balochistan cabinet also adopted a women empowerment bill to give social and political rights to women in the province.
“This was a right step in the direction”, Ayesha Wadood, the Chief of UN-Women Balochistan chapter said. She however lamented that violence against women was on a constant rise in Balochistan.
