Race for Governor Balochistan position enters a decisive phase

Race for the slot of Governor Balochistan entered a decisive phase on Saturday. Candidates for the position of Governor Balochistan have been making hectic efforts to win the race.

As the news of the reported letter of Prime Minister Imran Khan asking the Balochistan Governor Justice (R) Amanullah Khan Yaseenzai to step down leaked, political, tribal elites, former diplomats, bureaucrats started testing their muscles.

Asif Durrani, Zahoor Agha, and Naseebullah Bazai key candidates

Multiple sources have confirmed that three candidates including former diplomat Ambassador (R) Asif Ali Khan Durrani, Syed Zahoor Agha of Pakistan Tehrik e Insaf (PTI), and Senator Naseebullah Bazai of the ruling Balochistan Awami Party (BAP) were considered to be the main players in the decisive race.

Prime Minister, Imran Khan will be sending advice to the President Islamic Republic of Pakistan regarding the final nomination of the governor. “Three names are before the Premier”, a source in Islamabad said.

Durrani is a former diplomat and journalist

Asif Durrani is former diplomat. He has served as Pakistan’s ambassador to Iran, Abu Dhabi, UAE, Deputy High Commissioner/Minister for Pakistan in London. Born and raised in Quetta, Mr. Durrani has also worked as a journalist in Daily Muslim Correspondent in Quetta. Durrani also got his education in Quetta.

The Governor Balochistan, Justice (R) Amanullah Khan Yaseenzai has made no comment with regard to the reported letter by the Premier asking him to step down. So far, Mr. Yaseenzai has not hinted at resignation from the slot of Governor Balochistan.

Syed Zahoor Agha is a staunch supporter of PM Imran Khan 

Syed Zahoor Agha is one of the founding members of the ruling Pakistan Tehrik e Insaf (PTI) in Balochistan. Agha had joined the party more than 15 years ago. He is considered to be one of the staunch supporters of Prime Minister Imran Khan.

Agha has also experience 20 years in the flour mills association and steel mills association Balochistan.

Senator Naseebullah Bazai 

Senator Naseebullah Bazai belongs to the ruling Balochistan Awami Party (BAP). Mr. Bazai had spent most of his political career in the Pakistan Muslim League (N). However, he parted his ways with the main opposition party during senate elections. BAP, one of the key political allies of the PTI is supporting Mr. Bazai as the Governor of Balochistan.
