Blast near Quetta Serena Hotel martyrs 2 policemen

A powerful blast rocked Quetta, the provincial capital of Balochistan province on Sunday evening. The bomb went off near Quetta Serena Hotel. Muhammad Azhar Akram, the Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of Police said the blast has martyred 2 policemen and injured 18 people. 12 policemen are also among the injured in the blast, Mr. Akram said. The injured were rushed to civil hospital Quetta for medical treatment. “18 injured brought to the hospital”, Dr. Javed Akhtar, the Medical Superintendent Civil Hospital Quetta said. He said two injured were in critical condition.

Emergency imposed in the hospital to provide medical treatment to injured of the blast. The blast was heard far and wide in the city. Police and rescue services moved towards the location of the blast. Rescue sources said the bomb went off outside Quetta Serena Hotel. Several people got injured in the blast.

Police and other law enforcers reached the spot as an investigation into the incident went underway. Traffic was suspended after the blast by the administration. Long queues of vehicles were witnessed because of the suspension of the traffic.

The DIG Police stated that terrorists had planted an improvised explosive device in a motorcycle parked near a police vehicle. “Police were the target of the blast”, the DIG Police said.

Jam Kamal condemns the attack

Chief Minister Balochistan, Jam Kamal Khan has strongly condemned the terrorist act. He said the perpetrators of the blast would be brought to justice. Jam Kamal said some elements were creating unrest in Balochistan at the behest of their foreign masters.

The area where the bomb went off is the most sensitive part of Quetta city. The area houses Serena Hotel, Balochistan High Court, Balochistan Assembly, and other important offices.
