QUETTA: Chief Minister Balochistan, Jam Kamal Khan on Wednesday announced the holding of the ruling Balochistan Awami Party (BAP) elections next month. The CM took to Twitter and announced conducting party elections.
In the tweet, it was not mentioned that the party elections would be conducted in the fast-approaching month of October or November.
The BAP was founded prior to the 2018 general elections. It comprises dissidents from the former ruling party i.e. Pakistan Muslim League (N) and PML (Q). The BAP emerged as the largest parliamentary party during the 2018 general elections.
Intra-party elections were one of the long-standing demandsÂ
Intra-party elections were one of the long-standing demands of the workers and other office-bearers. Jam Kamal, the province’s CM has been leading the party since its establishment.
This announcement on the part of Jam Kamal has come few days after cracks appeared in the ruling party. Over a dozen legislators from the ruling party expressed reservations over the leadership of Jam Kamal Khan.
Deadlock within the party still existsÂ
Despite repeated attempts by the reconciliatory committee led by the Chairman of Senate Sadiq Sanjrani, the deadlock still exists within the ruling party. There was no immediate response on the part of angry members within the ruling party about the announcement of the party president and the incumbent Chief Minister.
The party has currently 24 legislators out of a total of 65 in the Balochistan Assembly. Serious differences surfaced within the ruling party when the joint opposition members submitted a no-confidence motion against Chief Minister Balochistan on September 16.
